Current Quilt... HALFWAY DONE!!!

Well, the quilt i am currently working on is halfway done!!! my g-ma is going to love it!!! I am a little farther along than half way now. I have 5 rows out of 8 done so i am moving right along!

Due to my progress, I have been thinking about my next quilting venture. So here are some designs i really like and am thinking about using for my next quilt. I am not quite sure who my next quilt is going to be for...my mommy, my dad, or MYSELF!!!

Quilt #3 options:
                                                                   Numero Uno

This is a design i found browsing the web and i really like it!! I would use different colors and prints of course... I like this for myself or my mom... or maybe my aunt!!!(above)

                                                                       Numero Dos

This design i really like. I am thinking about making my mom a quilt similar to this with NO PINK... and not floral prints. With lots of color and white dividing strips instead of black. (above)

                                                                   Numero Tres

I like this design because it just looks very MODERN!!! But the colors i would change because they are very BORING!!  If i make this quilt it would be navy strips instead of silver, lime green strips instead of yellow, and an orchid purple strip instead of teal. The background i would use a silver color instead of white. I am thinking still who i would make this for.

                                                      And finally.... Numero Cuatro

I found this modern log cabin design online. It was originally made by a blogger named alobsiger. She has a blog on flickr.com, she has made so many quilts its ridiculous!!! But she makes awesome stuff. i really like this and would definitely make this one for myself it is my fav of all i have posted. I would use different colors and prints and i am thinking of only doing 3 strips after the center square instead of 6.

Well, hopefully someone can give me some advice as to which quilt to make next!!

Current Project - Quilt for G-ma Nina

About a month ago i started getting prepared to make a quilt for my grandma. This is only my second quilt ever and i decided to try a different shape... a hexagon!! I have never sewed anything but a square of rectangle shape... i had no idea what i was getting myself into!!

After cutting all the material out which took me about 2 hours, i started drawing my seam lines. I have found that drawing the seam lines on the back of the fabric helps me get all my corners to line up!! Also its a great technique for hand quilters because you know you are sewing far enough down in the fabric that your quilt won't come apart when you go to wash it.
Well, let me tell you, drawing seam lines on 215 hexagons takes a LONG time!!! About a week and a half for me. HaHa.

So finally when that was done i was able to start the fun part... sewing the pieces together.
I hand sew everything... sewing machines are over rated and SCARY!!
However when it comes to sewing the quilt top, the batting, and the backing together i will use a sewing machine... it just takes too long!!!
Anyway here is my progress so far....
This is the first 2 rows of my g-ma's quilt(above)
This is the 3rd row, i have yet to sew it to the first two rows.(above)
This is the begininng of the 4th row(above). I have all the blocks for the 4th row completed but not all sewn together yet. That is my next step!!!

I have some alone time today... dad and his girlfriend(billy joe) have gone out to look for arrowheads and dino bones in the dessert. I have some quiet time away from the psycho lady who never stops talking.
So convernient for me that she gets in a talking mood when i am trying to work!!!

Well, until next time.... happy quilting!!

My First Blog!!!

Well, I decided to make a blog about quilting, biking taking photos, and going to school. I think most people have blogs and they say the same things over and over again, well i hope my blog doesn't turn into that.

As far as quilting goes I am currently working on a quilt for my 72 year old grandma!! She is so special to me and i wanted to show her how much I love and appreciate her. She knows that I am making it but she hasnt seen any photos at all of it. So i really can't wait to see her expression when I give it to her.

I just got to Colorado a week ago and biking is a huge sport out here. I have always enjoyed riding my bike but mountain biking is a whole other topic. So i have been riding my bike about 10 miles every day. Some days I ride just on the pavement and other days i ride on dirt trails, which contain rocks, fine dirt, sticks, and very steep hills.

Classes at colorado Mesa University start in about two weeks!!! I am so excited and a little scared. I am going to be staying at the dorms during the semester and i am a little nervous about it. But i know it i go in with a possitive, open mind then there shouldn't be any problems....I hope!!
